Goddard MFA in Creative Writing faculty member Kyle Bass is working as dramaturg with renowned visual artist and MacArthur “Genius” Grant award-winner Carrie Mae Weems on the creation of her first-ever theatre piece Grace Notes: Reflections for Now, which examines escalating racial tensions across the United States and the role or grace in the pursuit of democracy.  “The thing to me that is remarkable about our history, about who we are, about how we have conducted ourselves in the onslaught of history, is to maintain the core of our dignity,” Weems has said to her cast.  “That is really the ultimate call of grace.”  Following its premiere earlier this summer at Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, NC, Grace Notes was recently presented in sold-out performances at Yale Rep.  You can watch a short documentary on Grace Notes here.
