Please join us Thursday, February 15 at 7 p.m. for a celebration of literature from independent presses with readings by Micheline Aharonian Marcom, Elena Georgiou, and Rebecca Brown—three extraordinary writers and faculty from the creative writing program at Goddard College.
Micheline Marcom previously visited Elliott Bay to share from her award-winning books including Three Apples Fell from Heaven, The Daydreaming Boy, and A Brief History of Yes, and she is back with a remarkable, beautifully illustrated (Fowzia Karimi) book of dreamlike prose, The Brick House (Awst Press). “The Brick House is a stunning accomplishment, a work of piercing beauty and visionary power. With spare, exquisite lyricism, Marcom lays bare the raw hungers, horrors, and joys of human life, as only the most enduring literature can. Extraordinary.” –Carolina De Robertis.
Elena Georgiou, director of the MFA creative writing program at Goddard and author of the poetry collections Rhapsody of the Naked Immigrants (Harbor Mountain Press) and mercy mercy me (University of Wisconsin Press), is now here with her short story collection, The Immigrant’s Refrigerator (GenPop Books). “The Immigrant’s Refrigerator is a quietly devastating collection of stories about loners, craving love and connection, trying to survive in a world where war is always raging somewhere and happiness is a phantom of the future… Elena Georgiou’s voice is quirky and surprising; her ability to turn a phrase upside down invites us to experience the world and ourselves in a new way.” –Rahna Reiko Rizzuto
Rebecca Brown is the author of 12 books published in the U.S. and abroad including American Romances, The Gifts Of The Body, and The Terrible Girls. She joins us now to share WOMAN IN ILL FITTING WIG, a collection of prose poems with paintings by Nancy Kiefer.
Author and Goddard alum Isla McKetta will be hosting the post-reading Q&A.
Snacks and beverages are being furnished by Goddard College.
